Instructions for Making Cheese Rolls

Step 1
Prepare all the ingredients, except butter, and mix them in a stand mixer at low speed until well combined.
Step 2
Knead the dough until a rough film forms, then add softened butter and continue mixing until a smooth and elastic dough is formed.
Step 3
Take the dough out of the mixer, punch it down a few times, shape it into a round, cover with plastic wrap, and let it proof in a 30°C oven for an hour or until it doubles in size.
Step 4
Divide the proofed dough into 12 equal parts, shape each into a round, and let them proof for another 20 minutes.
Step 5
Roll out each piece of dough into a rectangle approximately 12×20 cm in size, cut half of it lengthwise, sprinkle Gouda cheese on the other half, then roll it up.
Step 6
Place all the rolled dough in a 28×28 cm square pan, cover with plastic wrap, and let it proof for an hour.
Step 7
After an hour, when the dough has proofed, the entire pan should be filled with dough, brush the surface of the dough with beaten egg.
Step 8
Preheat the oven to 160°C (top heat) and 170°C (bottom heat), bake on the lower rack for 17-18 minutes until the rolls are evenly browned on top.
